The 2013 Air Force Marathon is Saturday, September 21 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. A two day Sports & Fitness Exposition (September 19-20) and 5K race (September 20) will be held at the Wright State University Nutter Center. All events are open to the public.
The mission of the Air Force Marathon is to showcase the U.S. Air Force's legacy of pride, professionalism, and perseverance through an enduring world-class fitness experience for all. The Air Force Marathon features U.S. Air Force aircraft flyovers and a finish line flanked with vintage aircraft. The Marathon maintains its uniqueness by having Air Force senior leadership present runnesr with a commemorative medal as they cross the finish line.
In the past three years we have increased our runner registrations by 50%. In 2010, we surpassed our goal of 10,000 participants and registered over 12,000 runners, filling each race to its capacity. In 2011, we registered 13,500 runners, and in 2012, we capped our total participation at 15,000 runners. Our field in 2012 represented all 50 states and 20 foreign countries, and approximately 30,000 people attended the Sports & Fitness Expo.
