AIR FORCE MARATHON REGISTRATION NEARING CAPACITY

Wright -Patterson AFB, OH - Officials from the Air Force Marathon Office announced on June 3 that registrations for the full marathon have surpassed 60% of capacity, shattering previous registration records set last year.

"Our registration numbers this year are double what we had last year at this time," said Molly Louden, Air Force Marathon Director.  "At this rate, I fully anticipate that the full marathon will sell out by August 1st."

Although the marathon is still three months away, a record number of 1,200 runners registered during a four-day span over the Memorial Day holiday.  "We had a price increase on June 1st, and I think that motivated a lot of people to register before the price went up," Louden said.

In addition to the full marathon on September 18th, the Air Force also offers a half marathon and a 10K run.  A 5K run is held in conjunction with Wright State University on September 17th.  Registrations for the half marathon are also filling quickly this year, with more than 50% of the slots already filled.

"If you plan on participating in an Air Force Marathon event, I encourage you to register now," said Louden.  "We want the event to be enjoyable for all of our participants, so we limit the total number of runners with race caps, in order to ensure everyone gets the kind of treatment they've come to expect from the Air Force marathon."

The Air Force Marathon presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing will be held September 18, 2010 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force.  Participants start and finish at the National Air Force Museum, and spectators are welcome at the museum or in downtown Fairborn.   Other events include a half marathon and 10K to be held on the 18th.  Wright State University and the Air Force Marathon will co-host a 5K run on September 17, 2010 at the Ervin J.
