2010 Air Force Marathon Events at Deployed Locations

HQ AFMC Services Marketing - Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio:  The Air Force Marathon office is fielding questions about the upcoming 2010 Air Force Marathon in deployed locations.  Inquiries have come from runners who are deployed or will be deployed in September hoping to participate in the Air Force Deployed Marathon Events.  Events at deployed locations are determined by the deployed location site and may include distances of marathon, half marathon and 10K.

This will be the fourth year that the Air Force has sanctioned long distance  -satellite races in Southwest Asia.  Last year, 2,600 Airmen participated in the event races at deployed locations.  In the last four years, participation has increased and up to 3,500 can participate this year.

These Air Force Marathon Deployed Location races offer military a chance to share camaraderie and experiences missed while deployed on a smaller scale than the actual Air Force Marathon.

Currently, participating locations are:  Al Dahfra, Al Udeid, Ali Al Salem, Bagram, Balad, Kandahar, and Manas.  Site locations, race distances which may include marathon, half marathon and 10K, and other details will be finalized by June/July.

Questions and registration will be handled at the deployed base's Fitness Center beginning sometime in June/July timeframe.  Registration is free for deployed members.  Runners will receive from the Air Force Marathon, an official t-shirt and towel, and finisher's medal after completing the race.
