Name on Bibs Deadline August 15th
by Cimmeron Taylor
WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, OHIO - The United States Air Force Marathon encourages participants to register by August 15th if they wish to have their first name placed on their bib.
Molly Louden, race director, considers the name on bib a personal motivator for runners, "When I'm out there and I see a runner who is giving it their all, I want to yell Go Joe! Instead of Go 1255! It's a personal touch that makes a difference to the runner."
Runners share a common bond throughout the course but being able to know the name of the runner beside you strengthens that camaraderie. The race can be compared to an episode of Cheers where everybody knows your name. This might seem like a small detail to some but to a runner it means personal encouragement from fellow runners and spectators along the course.Â
There aren't many ways to make a race of 10,000 people feel intimate and personal, but this is certainly one of them. It makes the race more memorable.Â
