WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - The official USAF Marathon will be held here Sept. 16, along with a Sports and Fitness Expo on Sept. 14 and 15. Runners from all over the world are expected to participate, including two A-10 pilots - in honor of the A-10 aircraft which is this year's tribute craft. The A-10 "Warthog" will be on static display for media. BearingPoint, a business and systems integration firm, has joined the USAF Marathon for the 6th year as the Presenting Sponsor.

This year's festivities include a two day Sports & Fitness Exposition located in the Ervin J. Nutter Center at Wright State University , Gourmet Pasta Dinner, race day, awards ceremony and a post race festival beginning immediately after the first runner crosses the finish line. World renowned long distance runners Bill Rodgers and Alberto Salazar will sign autographs, conduct clinics, speak at the Gourmet Pasta Dinner and participate in the races on Saturday.

"Wright-Patterson AFB is very excited to be hosting the 10th year of the official USAF Marathon," said Molly Louden, USAF Marathon director. "We are reaching out on a global level to all 50 states and abroad with a goal of 10,000 total runners in all events. We are already on target with runners signing up early for extra savings online at www.usafmarathon.com. With the level of enthusiasm from the entire base and the participants, the 10th USAF Marathon will be the best event to date," said Ms. Louden.

The USAF Marathon website has training tips for all level of runners. Officials at Wright-Patterson have already been working to help runners be ready for the Sept. race. A fun run was held on St. Patrick's Day with more than 300 runners and a half marathon is scheduled June 10th, along with on-going running workshops sponsored by the base Health and Wellness Center for those with base access.
