Q. Where and when is the USAF Marathon?
A. The USAF Marathon races are held September 20, 2008 on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. The races included are the Marathon, Wheelchair Division of the Marathon, Half Marathon, team 10K, individual 10K, and 5K. A Sports and Fitness Expo is held at the Ervin J. Nutter Center, Wright State University, Fairborn, Ohio on Thursday, September 18 from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, September 19 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Each runner must attend the Sports and Fitness Expo as there is no race day packet pickup.

Q. Is the USAF Marathon open to the public?
A. Yes, absolutely. The USAF Marathon is open to everyone and has been since the first year in 1997 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United States Air Force.

Q. How can I volunteer to help with the USAF Marathon?
A. The USAF Marathon is such a great event because of our terrific volunteers. We are always looking for help, especially the week prior to and during the marathon. Just click on Volunteer Registration. Each job is listed with job description, date and time. You just need to fill out your information and when you want to volunteer we will send you a confirmation. Thanks in advance!

Q. How long do I have to complete the course when I run the marathon, half marathon, and 10K?
A. Participants in the marathon have 7 hours to complete the course. Half marathon and 10K participants must complete the race by 2:30 p.m. If participants are not keeping pace during the race, they will be asked to leave the course and transported back to the finish line area.

Q. Is the USAF Marathon walker friendly?
A. All of our events including the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K are walker friendly. We ask those of you who are going to be walking the full marathon, half marathon and 10K to please remember that you must finish by 2:30 p.m.

Q. Is the USAF Marathon a USA Track and Field certified course? Can I qualify for the Boston Marathon?
A. The USAF Marathon is certified by the USA Track and Field Association with a certificate number of OH97034PR. The USAF Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying run. Qualifying times for the Boston Marathon can be viewed at http://www.bostonmarathon.org/BostonMarathon/Qualifying.asp. All appropriate information is forwarded to the Boston Marathon from the USAF Marathon office.

Q. I would like to participate in the USAF Marathon. Is permissive TDY authorized?
A. Permissive TDY is authorized for Air Force active duty members under AFI 36-3003 (12 Jan 04), Military Leave Program, Section F, Paragraph 12, Table 7, Rule 33. Be sure to check with your supervisor.
In accordance with Joint Travel Regulations, DoD guidance and AF Instructions, civilians cannot be granted permissive TDY to participate in the United States Air Force Marathon. For more information please contact HQ AFMC/A1SXA at (937) 257-4803 or DSN 787-4803.

Q. Do you accept credit cards for payment?
A. Yes, when you register online for better value, credit cards are accepted for all races.

Q. Who receives a finisher's medal?
A. Every individual who crosses the finish line within the 7-hour time limit (for marathoners) or by 2:30 p.m. (for other races) will receive a finisher's medallion, including marathon, half marathon, team 10K, and individual 10K runners. 5K runners who finish will receive a medallion on Sep. 19, 2008 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

Q. Is there medical care available on the course?
A. Medical support for this event will consist primarily of volunteer medical personnel prepared to administer first aid-style assistance along the race course and at the finish line.

Q. Where do I pick up my bib and runner's packet and what do I need?
A. Each runner is required to show photo identification to pick up their bib and runner packet at the Sports & Fitness Exposition held at the Ervin J. Nutter Center, Wright State University, 3640 Colonel Glenn Highway, Fairborn, Ohio 45435. The Sports & Fitness Exposition is Thursday, September 18 from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, September 19 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. Our policy is that registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

If you are unable to attend the race, you may send a $10 check for shipping and handling payable to "USAF Marathon" to receive your T-shirt.
